Africa-Press – Angola. The provincial director of the Migration and Foreigners Service (SME), Vidal Coutinho, asked for the involvement of traditional authorities and the population residing in border areas, in the fight against illegal migration.
According to the official, who spoke at the end of the second meeting of the Extended Council of the SME in Lunda Sul, held on Tuesday, illegal immigration motivated by the illegal exploitation of diamonds represents a danger to the political and economic stability of the country.
He said that the SME will continue to work on preventing and combating illegal migration, encouraging staff to carry out their missions rigorously.
In 2022, the SME in Lunda Sul expatriated 87 foreigners, mostly from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), for illegal stay, and five West African citizens were invited to leave the region.
Lunda Sul controls 1,25 citizens of different nationalities, including work visa holders, asylum seekers, residents, among others.
The meeting took place under the motto “SME wisdom, security and intelligence in the fight against illegal immigration and related crimes”, and was attended by senior officers, subordinates, sub-chiefs, members of the operative advisory council, heads of municipal sections, of border and the containment post.
