Africa-Press – Angola. Seven hundred and 40 citizens of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) were repatriated, in the last 12 months, by the staff of the Migration and Foreigners Service (SME) in Uíge, for illegally entering and staying in the country.

The repatriation of DRC citizens took place at the Kimbata border post, in the municipality of Maquela do Zombo, Uíge province.

The data were disclosed Wednesday, by the head of the Department of Information and Analysis of the Migration and Foreigners Service (SME) in Uíge, migration intendant André Tecadiomona, during the provincial act that marked the 47 years of existence of this organ of the Interior Ministery.

André Tecadiomona informed that, during the period, the SME sent seven citizens to the Detention Center for Illegal Foreigners, in Luanda province, three from Guinea-Conakry, two Malians, one Mauritanian and the same number from Guinea.

The SME in Uíge controls a total of 733 foreign citizens, of which 373 are holders of work visas, 204 asylum seekers, 76 residents, 52 in family shelter and 28 asylum seekers.

He also added that 22 cases involving 28 citizens were forwarded to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, 26 of which were nationals, for aiding illegal immigration, and two from the DRC, for falsifying documents.

After evaluating some facts, 16 citizens were released, through the term of identity and residence

He added that three citizens were sentenced to four and two years in prison, respectively, while another seven are awaiting trial in the Comarca of Congo.

He also made known that the body received and processed 1,024 migration acts, 890 for nationals and 134 for foreigners.

In turn, the interim Delegate of the Ministry of the Interior (MININT), the migration commissioner, Filipe Pemba, highlighted the need to pay greater attention to migratory flows, taking into account the vast extension of the land and river border that the province shares with the DRC.

For that reason, he urged the staff of the Migration and Foreigners Service to reinforce permanent surveillance.
