Africa-Press – Angola. A border post will be opened on March 9, in Omulunga, Cunene province, to facilitate the migratory movement of national and foreign citizens, announced Monday, the provincial director of the Foreign Migration Service (SME), migration commissioner Ribeiro Ferraz.
This post will be opened this year by the SME, the body that controls, in the province of Cunene, the border posts of Santa Clara, Calueque, Ruacaná and Okalongo with a daily average of 1,500 exits and entries of citizens. from Angola to Namibia, and vice versa.
Within the framework of the 47th anniversary of this body, to be celebrated on the 19th of the current month, the director of the SME in Cunene referred that the opening of the post aims to combat illegal migration, since March 9 is far away from other border points.
On the other hand, he informed that efforts were being made in the field of infrastructure, to improve service, both at headquarters and at border posts, to satisfy the needs of users.
“We also intend to reinforce the posts, with technological means such as computers and means of transport, to boost the performance of the staff placed in the border area”, he said.
The official said that they will also invest in the continuous training of the staff, in terms of fraud, biometrics, border security, human resources management and other matters inherent to the activity.
He also spoke of the work carried out in coordination with other defense and security bodies, in maintaining the inviolability of the border and in the fight against illegal migration.
Ribeiro Ferraz said that in the first quarter of this year, the SME recorded 173 illegal emigration offenses, and the repatriation of 129 citizens, including from Namibia, Somalia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Cunene province shares a 460 kilometer border with the Republic of Namibia, 340 on land and 120 on rivers.
