Sonangol clarifies the specificity of the new oil tanker

Africa-Press – Angola. Sonangol clarified this Sunday in Seoul, South Korea, that the new vessel will only serve to transport crude oil.

The president of Sonangol Marine Service, João Almeida, said that crude oil should not be confused with its derivatives, stressing that the company will no longer charter ships to meet its objectives in this segment.

According to João Almeida, it is an oil tanker that increases the fleet, which goes from 9 to 10 ships.

João Almeida said that, by the end of the year, the fleet could have one more ship, when it takes possession of the second, also to be built by Hyundai Sambo Heavy Industries.

“It is an oil tanker that corresponds to Sonangol’s transport needs and that is at the level of the highest quality oil tankers sailing in the world’s waters or oceans”, he asserted.

According to the person in charge, it is yet another vessel that increases Sonangol’s transport capacity to better meet market needs.

The oil tanker has the capacity to transport 1 million barrels and is designed for a useful life of 20 years.

He clarified that there is no partnership with any American company, but a Swedish one, in the field of commercial management, aimed at 50 percent for each one.

He assured that the Angolan company is the ship’s commercial manager, providing services not only in terms of shipping (maritime transport) for the Sonangol group, but for all companies internationally.

In the city of Mokpo, there is already a delegation from the Ministry of Petroleum, with emphasis on the Secretary of State for Oil and Gas, José Barroso, technicians from the Institute for the Management of Assets and Participation of the State (IGAPE), Chairman of the Board of Directors Sonangol, Gaspar Martins, religious entities, musicians, among other entities linked to the oil sector.

Sonangol is an Angolan oil company founded in 1976.
