Africa-Press – Angola. The city of Soyo, in the province of Zaire, needs structural civil engineering works to stop the floods that affect the district every year.

The deputy municipal administrator for the technical area, infrastructure and community services, Adelino Nkai, said that the solution involves implementing the project called “combating floods”, approved in 2019, within the scope of relations of cooperation between Angola and the Netherlands.

This is a project characteristic of the regions of the Netherlands, which foresees the construction of technical networks for the drainage of rainwater and wastewater into the Zaire River.

The project also includes the construction of streets based on reinforced concrete, the most used model in the Netherlands.

He informed that, in the framework of this project, technical studies had already been completed in 2019, through air and land means, with the use of sophisticated equipment by a company from that European country.

He added that the aforementioned study identified five neighborhoods considered the most critical in terms of flooding caused by rain, namely Kikala Kiaco, 1o de Maio, Kikudo, Kungoyenguele and Kintambi.

Of central subordination, the project, according to the source, is in the feasibility study phase, and should in the near future be presented to potential funders for discussion and approval.

The city of Soyo, coastal zone of the province of Zaire, has an estimated population of over 250,000 inhabitants.
