Africa-Press – Angola. The Supreme Court (TS) decided Friday, to create a fourth section of the Criminal Chamber, aiming to speed up the treatment of existing cases there.
The information was made public by its spokesperson, Leandro Lopes, at the end of an ordinary session of the Supreme Court, chaired by the presiding judge, Joel Leonardo.
Leandro Lopes said that of the eight new judges who recently joined the court, five were assigned to the Criminal Chamber, while the other three were placed in the civil chamber.
He explained that the institution now has 23 advisory judges, distributed in four chambers, namely, Criminal, Civil, Administrative Litigation, Tax and Customs and Labour.
The spokesperson informed that the entry of new magistrates allowed the redistribution of many pending cases, aiming to meet the challenge of the President of the Supreme Court, Joel Leonardo, in order to resolve the more than two thousand pending cases by 2025.
As an example, he pointed out that the Criminal Chamber, with 12 judges, currently has 1,887 cases, each of which has close to 150 cases to be resolved.
The spokesperson stated that the new judges will take up their duties next Monday.
