The national swimming coach, João Aguiar, was optimistic that the National Team will have a good representation today, when athletes Salvador Gordo, Henriques Mascarenhas, Lia Lima and Maria Lopes, compete in the 4X100 meters mixed style relay event, in the World Championship of the sport, in Budapest, Hungary.
The information was disclosed yesterday to Jornal de Angola, by the technician who expects to overcome personal marks and achieve new absolute national records, by category, in the competition.
“The objective is to surpass personal marks, mainly the absolute national records by category”, he said. For today’s event, Gordo competes in the 100-meter backstroke, Henriques (100-meter freestyle), Maria (100-meter breaststroke) and Lia ( 100 meters moth).
Clinically, there is no concern. The athlete Mascarenhas, after the dispute of the first test, as a result of illness a week ago, felt pain, but is now recovered, according to João Aguiar. Today, Mascarenhas, in addition to the relay, also disputes another one of the 100 meters freestyle.
He also explained that the experienced swimmer in open water events, Pedro Pinotes, climbs the Hungarian soil, 27 degrees from the current. “You will do a specific preparation for adaptation to the water and the climate”, he said.
The athlete of 1º de Agosto, Lia Lima, evolving in Sport Lisboa e Benfica, in Portugal, returns to compete on Thursday, in the 50 meters event.
