Africa-Press – Angola. The privatization of the Angolan airline – TAAG should take place before 2025, according to indications of the company’s executive president, Eduardo Fairen Soria, noting that, at the moment, there are only expressions of interest.
Cited by the EFE agency, Eduardo Fairen Soria said that the Angolan Government’s idea is to privatize the aviation sector, since, in January 2025, the country will be covered by the “open skies agreement”, the Single African Air Transport Market. (SAATM).
Despite indicating that the privatization of the company may take place before that date, the executive chairman of TAAG noted that, so far, there is no formal process, deadline or talks, but only expressions of interest by large companies.
TAAG, which “has to update itself and compete like any other company”, is immersed in a process of strategic changes, focused on expanding the network of destinations and increasing international presence, he added.
In this sense, the company ordered 14 planes from Boeing to renew the route. In February, Eduardo Fairen Soria had admitted that the privatization of the Angolan flag airline should not happen before 2023 or 2024, given the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
