TAAG returns to Havana and reinforces Madrid route

Africa-Press – Angola. Linhas Aéreas de Angola (TAAG) will resume round-trip flights between Luanda and Havana in the second week of November, when it also reinforces the route to Madrid with a third weekly flight on Tuesday, according to a press release released, yesterday, by the company.

The document recalls that the route between Luanda and Havana had been discontinued during the period of the Covid-19 pandemic that devastated the world in 2020 and that the recovery stems from conditions created by the TAAG Administration, which includes the availability of a Boeing 777- 300 to carry out the operation.

The route is carried out on fortnightly frequencies, although weekly flights are scheduled between December and February 2023, when they return to the fortnightly frequency.

The Administration of TAAG emphasizes the fact that the air connections between the two countries are favored by the strong ties between the two historical and the exchange of passengers, namely, with the entry into Angolan territory of the corporate segment of Cuban doctors and professors, as well as related trips to tourism, education and health care in the opposite direction.

The additional flight to Madrid will take place from the 1st of November, to meet the increasing levels of demand and aircraft occupancy rate, says TAAG in the press release. Inaugurated in June this year, with the establishment of flights on Thursdays and Sundays, the route to Madrid is operated by an Airbus A332 with capacity for 298 passengers.

TAAG guarantees to continue to evaluate opportunities for growth and availability of connections for passengers in the near future. A week ago, TAAG announced the phased increase in flights to Cabinda, in Angola, Maputo (Mozambique), Windhoek (Namibia) and São Paulo (Brazil).

The reinforcement of flights to Cabinda started last Sunday, with frequencies increasing from 24 to 26 flights operated, on Saturday and Sunday, by a Boeing 737-700.

More Frequencies

The Luanda-Maputo air connections will become, according to that announcement, more frequent from 2 October, with one more flight per week, bringing the total to four. The additional flight will take place on Sunday, with a Boeing 737-700 aircraft.

Flights between Luanda and Windhoek increase the frequency from four to five, as of October 2, with the additional one being operated on Sundays by a Dash 8-Q400 aircraft.

Between Luanda and São Paulo, flights will increase from three to four per week from 5 November.

The additional flight between 4 de Fevereiro International Airport and Guarulhos will be operated on Saturday, and the return flight to Luanda will be carried out on Sunday by a Boeing 777-300.

On that occasion, TAAG highlighted the reinforcement of flights to Portuguese-speaking countries and the Southern African region (Namibia), in addition to Cabinda, in response to the preferences of its passengers.

The publicly-owned air carrier has a fleet of six Dash 8-Q 400s, seven Beoeing 737-700s, three 777-200s and five 777-300s. of a contract that extends until 2024, for the acquisition of six Airbus 220-300.
