Africa-Press – Angola. Farmers in the municipality of Tando Zinze, in the province of Cabinda, harvest around 105,921 tons of various products annually, the municipal administrator reported on Wednesday. Ernesto Barros André, speaking in an interview, said that the most produced foods in the administrative district include sweet potatoes, yams, maca, peanuts, pineapples, maca beans, butter beans, maca, cocoa, coffee, cassava, corn, oil palm, safú, gindungo and vegetables.
The municipal administrator said that production is carried out in an area of approximately 92,800 hectares of cultivated land and involves the involvement of 152 family farmers, distributed across 15 associations, 70 cooperatives and 29 emerging business units.
Investment in aquaculture
In addition to the expected harvest, he said, the municipality stands out as the province’s breadbasket in terms of livestock and aquaculture, with over 60 production and breeding units for cacusso fish (tilapia) and 100 breeders of goats, cattle, sheep and rustic chickens.
According to Ernesto Barros André, in order to increase productivity, farming families are supported with improved seeds, fertilizers and work tools, as part of the implementation of several ongoing actions in the municipality, with emphasis on the “Value Chain Development” Project, “Integrated Community Project (PIC)”, “Agricultural Development Program (PFA)” and “Program to Combat Hunger and Poverty (PCFP)”.
Despite the assistance provided to farmers, he said, the number of families covered in the locality is still insufficient, taking into account the large number of villages in the municipality of Tando Zinze.
