The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Teté António, speaks at the 24th Extraordinary Meeting of the Executive Council of the African Union (AU), scheduled to take place at the headquarters of the continental organization, in Addis Ababa, the capital of the The event, organized by the African Union Commission, will discuss the draft report on the election of the Commissioner for Economic Development, Tourism, Trade, Industry and Mining (ETTIM) and the Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (ESTI). The meeting follows a decision adopted at the 46th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union, which recommends holding an Extraordinary Session of the AU Executive Council, dedicated exclusively to unfinished electoral processes, in particular the election of the Commissioners for Economic Development, Trade, Industry and Mines, and for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, in addition to the members of the Peace and Security Council of the Northern Region, the Commission on International Law of the African Union and a member of the African Space Agency.
Minister Teté António is participating in the meeting as Chair of the AU Executive Council, one of the organization’s main decision-making bodies, composed of the foreign ministers of the member states.
This council is responsible for coordinating and making decisions on policies and strategic issues, as well as preparing the agenda for the annual summits of the African Union’s Heads of State and Government.
It is also responsible for monitoring and evaluating the implementation of decisions and policies adopted by the organization and discussing and proposing structural and operational improvements within the African Union.
