Africa-Press – Angola. General Matias Lima Coelho “Nzumbi” launched, yesterday, at the Military History Museum, in Luanda, the book about his military career, marked by his participation in several combat fronts, with emphasis on the wars of Cahama, Cuito Cuanavale, Quimbele , Mbanza Kongo, Cabinda and Moxico.
The author, who wrote the book in less than a year, promised to bring stories related to childhood in his next work. “I will write about my childhood until I was ten years old”, said the general, underlining the fact that he had fought in all the wars the country went through.
“I fought on all fronts. I had the privilege of ending three wars in Angola”, emphasizes the general, in an accentuated tone. in Cunene and we ended the war in Moxico”, he stressed, noting that he was present in all provinces.
The English jurist Pinto, a childhood friend, presented the biography of General Nzumbi, acclaimed in military affairs as “General of all Wars”. The author, who takes readers on a tour of a reality still present in the memory of many Angolans, born in Benguela, in the Benfica neighbourhood, in 1952. Inglês Pinto said that the work of General Nzumbi is part of the country’s military history, appealing to young people to read the book to better understand some aspects of Angola’s history.
“It’s important to read a lot. A country where you don’t read will certainly not have positive results. It takes a lot of reading, a lot of research, to have data to discuss seriously and properly”, he advised, calling attention that “the State has responsibilities added to the promotion of a reading culture”.
General Eusébio Teixeira, a childhood friend of the author, said he has good memories from the Benfica neighborhood, in Benguela, where he recalls an episode that marks the lives of the two, referring to the fact that the authorities at that time destroyed the houses where they lived. . He mentioned that when they joined the colonial troops, in different specialties, one being in the cavalry and the other in the infantry.
“He (Zumbi) was in the north, and I was in the center and, later, in the east. At FAPLA, we were together in the center and south of the country. Then he went to Cunene, and I to Cuando Cubango, and we turned to see in the east, in the major operations that were carried out at that time”, says General Eusébio.
The book, entitled “The general of all fronts”, describes the military career of General “Nzumbi”, divided into seven chapters, namely “Avó Rosalina and Duas Mamãs”, “War of the Transition”, “Liberation to the North” , “A Guerra na Cahama”, “On all fronts”, “Homolangue Okandikanda” and “Congo and São Tomé”. With 331 pages, the work was prefaced by journalist Artur Queiroz, who also dealt with its structuring.
