The Great African Expedition: Russia Launches Major Aquatic Research Endeavor

Africa-Press – Angola. The Great African Expedition, an initiative launched by the Russian Federal Agency for Fishery, officially commenced in Kaliningrad, Russia, on Wednesday. This research aims to assess the potential of aquatic biological resources along the African coast.

To facilitate this research, two vessels from the All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography, named “Atlantida” and “Atlantniro,” have set sail. With a crew comprising around 100 Russian scientists, the expedition is poised to conduct an in-depth examination of biological resource stocks in the targeted areas.

The study will span expansive regions along the coasts of 19 West African nations, stretching from Morocco to Angola, and will extend into the western part of the Indian Ocean near Eritrea, Oman, Mozambique, Madagascar, and Mauritius.

This significant scientific venture follows the discussions held at the Russia-Africa Summit in 2023, highlighting the collaboration between Russia and African nations in exploring aquatic resources.
