Africa-Press – Angola. Three people died and three others were injured in a road accident that occurred during New Year’s Eve in Cabinda, a police source announced today.
According to the spokesperson for the Provincial Command of the National Police in Cabinda, Marcos Cochito, the accident resulted from the crash of a motor vehicle followed by overturning.
Marcos Cochito was speaking during a review of his corporation’s operational situation over the last 24 hours.
He said that, in the same period, four pedestrian accidents were also recorded in the city of Cabinda, two other road accidents in the municipality of Buco-Zau and one in Belize.
As for other crimes, he explained that the forces securing the festive season recorded six cases of theft, one of robbery and the same number of sexual abuse.
On the border with the two Congos, 20 foreign citizens were detained who tried to violate the borders to reach Cabinda, of which 13 from Congo-Brazzaville, detained on the northern border of Massabi, and seven from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), stopped in southeast and southern borders of Cabinda (Chiobo and Yema).
The spokesperson also indicated that police forces thwarted an attempt to smuggle 1,375 liters of gasoline destined for the two neighboring countries.
Marcos Cochito highlighted, however, that, despite these incidents recorded on New Year’s Eve, the province of Cabinda enjoys “total calm”, taking into account the permanent readiness of the security forces.
These forces, he said, continue throughout the province to guarantee order and tranquility for the populations and are vigilant in protecting the borders, ensuring their inviolability.
More than four thousand personnel from different bodies of the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) and other defense and security forces were deployed to guarantee stability and security in the northernmost province of Angola.
