Africa-Press – Angola. With the song “Linga upangue wove”, which translated from Umbundu to Portuguese means “Do your job”, the duo Tiagão and Grande Nico won, this Monday, the provincial phase of the Top dos Mais Queridos in Huambo.

With 14,835 votes, the duo relegated, to the second position, the quartet Os Picantes, winners of the last edition of the provincial and national phase of the contest, carried out by the National Radio of Angola, with 7,447 votes, while the artist Play Puva was in third, adding five thousand 556 votes.

In addition to representing the province of Huambo in the 2023 national edition of the Rádio Nacional de Angola group contest, the duo Tiagão and Grande Nico received 150 thousand Kwanzas and a certificate of merit, as a local prize, while Os Picantes and the artist Play Puva were awarded, respectively, 90 and 60 thousand Kwanzas.

On the occasion, the coordinator of Top dos Mais Queridos in Huambo, João Pedro, said that the first stage of the open voting began in March and ended last April, when the 10 most voted singers for the second stage were selected.

In the second phase, considered the last, lasting 45 days, he informed that 44 thousand and 11 votes were received, of which 1,801 through telephone calls in the various radio programs, 34, 455 ballots filled in at the entrance of the station and 7,000 563 for messages, while the others were considered null.

Regarding the title, the duo thanked the local public for their vote, hoping to represent, with dignity, the province of Huambo in the national contest.

The 10 competitors in the last phase of the 2023 edition were Mamã Jepele, Irmã Stella, MKS, Rei da Lei, Alberto Max, Play Puva, Picantes, Milton T, Salvadores da Fé and the duo Tiagão and Grande Nico.

The national phase of the Top dos Mais Queridos is scheduled for next October, in Luanda, the country’s capital.

Top dos Mais Queridos is a cultural initiative by the National Radio of Angola-EP (RNA-EP) that aims to reward the songs of individual singers or bands, most heard on their channels, involving listeners by voting in the selection process of the songs in the contest. .

With three editions won since the distant year of 1982, the musician Pedrito continues to be the record holder of the Top dos Mais Queridos, organized by RNA, which annually brings together the best of Angolan music.

Pedrito won the first edition held in 1982, repeating the feats in 1984 and 1986.

In second place are Jacinto Tchipa, winner in 1988 and 1989, and Matias Damásio, who won the top in 2007 and 2013.

The quartet Os Picantes, from the province of Huambo, won the last edition of the top with the song “Crise no Lar”, in 2021.

From 1992 to 2000 it was not held due to the armed conflict in the country.
