Africa-Press – Angola. Tony Parker Jr, former North American basketball player for the San Antonio Spurs, visits, this Thursday, at 9:00 am, the premises of Escola Formigas do Cazenga, where he will fulfill an agenda within the framework of the partnership signed with that association.

According to the program, Parker will fraternize with the mini-basketball athletes as well as the senior women’s team. The former Charlotte Hornets player will speak at a press conference.

Before speaking to the media professionals, accompanied by the president of Formigas do Cazenga, Ngouabi Salvador, the president of the Clube Asvel Lyon de France will unveil the commemorative plaque to the relations between that Angolan association and French institutions, with emphasis on the embassy of that European country.

Tony Parker, who is also the academy’s godfather, will leave his signature in the “graffiti” style (a form of artistically designed calligraphed writing or drawing painted on a support) on the club’s mural, around 11:00 am, the time scheduled for the term. of the visit.

In July 2021, the memorandum of understanding was formally signed between the French Development Agency, Clube Formigas do Cazenga, the French Embassy in Angola and associated companies, at the headquarters of that association in the capital.

The act was witnessed by the Secretary of State for Sport, Carlos Almeida, the president of the Angolan Basketball Federation (FAB), Moniz Silva, as well as other entities linked to sport.

At the time, the diplomatic representative of that European country, Daniel Vosgien, highlighted the importance of the inclusion project through basketball, a popular and emblematic sport for Angolans. “It is important to work on social inclusion and gender equality, and sport seems to us to be an important vector for raising awareness among youth. It is an initiative that involves various public and private actors, a perfect example of multisectoral cooperation”.

Since then, some improvements have been made to the floor, new backboards, balls, protectors and cones have been received. The project incorporates academic training through the granting of scholarships, medical assistance and medication to club members.

The French initiative, focused on women’s basketball, brings together several projects into one, including the Solidarity Fund for Innovative Projects, as well as the Tony Parker Academy, of the former French national team player.

The project began to benefit in the first instance the Cazenga association, due to the “quality in the sports and social work” done in that community, according to the note made public last year.

Actions to promote the sport in urban areas are also contemplated, namely for 3×3 basketball, and investment in sustainable infrastructure.

William Anthony or simply Tony Parker Jr, was born in Belgium but it was in France where he grew up. At the San Antonio Spurs, he is to this day one of the greatest players in the franchise that made him NBA champion on four occasions (2003, 2005, 2007 and 2014), over the 17 years he wore the jersey.
