Africa-Press – Angola. The sale of diamonds, from 2022 to date, was US$2 billion for a volume of around 9.2 million carats sold and exported.
This information was provided by the Chairman of the Board of Directors (PCA) of Sociedade de Comercialização de Diamantes de Angola (Sodiam), Eugénio Bravo da Rosa, who underlined that it was the highest value recorded to date, in terms of marketing, essentially influenced by the dynamics of the international diamond market.
Speaking to journalists this Tuesday, in Luanda, on the sidelines of a visit by the Institute of Asset Management and State Participation (IGAPE), the PCA stressed that, although “we had experienced the issues resulting from the war in Ukraine and the sanctions imposed to Russia, there was a great demand for diamonds from Angola”.
As for the visit, he made it known that, as a company of the Public Business Sector (SEP), Sodiam has the duty to inform IGAPE, having sought to inform the institute of the activity of the sector, with all the aspects inherent to the commercialization and transformations that the company has been suffering since 2017.
He assured that Sodiam’s accounts, from the point of view of financial results, are fine, and “the results have been positive, since 2017 to date. Audit reserves were analyzed and Sodiam has three audit reserves that constitute some cause for concern, although they come from the period prior to our management. We have been working to eliminate them”.
As for the process of launching the Diamond Trade Exchange, he assured that Sodiam is working with other companies in the sector and with the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas to complete the process.
In turn, the chairman of the Board of Directors of the Institute for Asset Management and State Participation (IGAPE), Patrício Vilar, said that it was a follow-up visit, which aims to bring the institute’s technicians closer to companies in the sense of being able to solidarity with them in resolving constraints.
He stressed that Sodiam is in a sector undergoing transformation, and it is necessary to safeguard all the requirements and demands placed on a company of this nature.
He added that during the meeting, between the two institutions, issues related to financial reporting and the reservations that the auditors have placed in the accounts were being addressed, given that when the auditors place reservations it means that the accounts may have some uncertainties.
“Sodiam is a company undergoing frank transformation and evolution. It has produced international auctions and is in a phase of evolution towards a Diamond Exchange, which will be a new reality from a technological point of view”, he emphasized.
Data released on Friday (27th) by the Studies Office of the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, indicated that exports of diamonds in Angola, since 2022 the date of publication, had yielded US$1.95 billion, as a result of the sale of 8.83 million carats.
