The provincial director of Transport in Namibe, Cármen Machado, informed that this amount comes from the payment for the acquisition of licenses for the vehicle’s taxi activity and the monthly income tax, paid by motorcycle taxi drivers, taxi drivers and truck drivers. , at the level of the entire province.

He reported a positive balance for the year ending, taking into account the normal circulation of the train on the Moçâmedes/Bibala section, the rehabilitation of the Saco-Mar Mineral Port and the expansion of the Commercial Port.

The increase of four TAAG flight frequencies and road transport, with the implementation of a new interprovincial passenger transport operator (Huambo Expresso) and the reception of 12 new buses, which will enter into circulation in the first quarter of the current year , were, among other gains, achieved last year by the transport sector.

Cármen Machado indicated that the sector in the province controls 4 thousand 505 motorcycle taxi drivers, 605 urban, intercity and intercity taxi drivers, and 67 truck drivers.

“ In our province, the Cabinet controls 154 buses and minibuses. This number could grow, with an estimate of reaching 275 buses”, he clarified.

At the province level, as explained by the person responsible for the Transport, Traffic and Urban Mobility sector, four associations are established, such as Ataxina, Acatprs, Amotrang and Amonabe, which have developed their work with regard to road accidents, with pedagogical actions and awareness raising, so that motorbike taxi drivers and truck drivers can comply with traffic and other rules.

The acquisition of original parts and accessories for public passenger vehicles and the monitoring of urban transport services, with GPS systems, were highlighted by the director as some of the difficulties that the sector is facing.

As a perspective, it points to updating the career plan for urban public passenger transport in improving urban services, promoting private investment in public transport projects, maritime circulation of passenger boats “Catamará” and certification of the welwitchia Mirabilis airport as international.
