Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, received, this Monday (18), in Cidade Alta, the deputy prime minister and minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Christophe Lutundula Apala, who was a bearer of a message from Félix Tshisekedi Tshilombo.
Upon leaving the meeting, the politician, who came to Luanda as a special envoy, stressed that the meeting served to inform the Angolan statesman, in his capacity as President-in-Office of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (CIRGL), about the reappearance, in that country, of the rebel group M23.
Christophe Lutundula Apala said the group had been presumed dead for four years but had reappeared in recent days, attacking members of the Congolese Armed Forces. He said it is not known where and how it resurfaced in the country. “President Tshisekedi mandated me to give the current situation regarding the new scenario that we are now experiencing in the DRC, to President João Lourenço, for his knowledge”, he stressed.
He referred that the Congolese Armed Forces are making progress in the theater of operations against the rebel group. “Right now, I can say that the Congolese Armed Forces are taking some initiative on the negative forces”, assured the special envoy, for whom it is a battle that could be fought in the “long stretch”.
