Two thousand police personnel guarantee the security of São Silvestre

Africa-Press – Angola. Two thousand National Police (PN) personnel will guarantee, on Sunday (31), the security of the 67th edition of the traditional end-of-year pedestrian race, called São Silvestre de Luanda.

The head of race security, chief superintendent Simão Saul, said this Saturday at a press conference that public order agents, traffic regulators and the Civil Protection and Fire Service will be involved.

He added that the group will be divided into nine sectors of the route, all equipped with technical means to make the race a success.

At the press conference, it was also announced that 21 foreign long distance runners are registered for this 10 kilometer race, which starts at 6 pm, in Largo da Mutamba (downtown of Luanda).

Namibia, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Mauritius, Somalia, Gambia and Kenya (last edition’s winner) are the countries that will be present at the competition.

The race will feature the participation of 2,500 long distance runners, including professionals and amateurs.

António Teko (second place in men) and Ernestina Paulino (winner in women) of the 2022 edition, stand out among the Angolans.

The race will pass through Avenidas Amílcar Cabral, Revolucion de Outubro and Ho-Chi-Minh, Alamedas Manuel Van-Dúnem, Largo do Kinaxixi, streets of Missão, Cirilo da Conceição, 4 de Fevereiro, Largo do Baleizão, Rua Francisco das Necessidades, ending at the Coqueiros Stadium.
