Africa-Press – Angola. Writer Nélida Maria Brito presented on Tuesday (09), in Luanda, the literary work “Trabalho de Campo de Txon Bom” (Txon Bon Labor Camp, lit. in English) which portrays the daily lives of those who suferred for Angola’s independence in colonial concentration camps.

The book, published by Mayamba Editora, Lda, has 409 pages, 10 chapters, and was presented as part of the 50th anniversary of Angola’s independence, proclaimed on Nov 11, 1975, by the nationalist António Agostinho Neto, who subsequently became the first President of the Republic.

The event brought together nationalists, government members, members of the National Assembly, academics, among others.

According to Nélida Brito, the work addresses the struggle for independence of the then Portuguese colonies, with emphasis on Angola, Guinea-Bissau, and Cape Verde.

“This is a doctoral thesis that narrates the events that nationalists experienced in order to achieve the independence of their respective countries. The field of work is a space of collective memory for all those who passed through there, a work of history,” emphasized the professor from the University of Cape Verde (Uni-CV).

For Nélida Maria Freira Brito, a historian, the book will be a study guide for students of this discipline, as it provides information about the colonial period.
