Africa-Press – Angola. Uíge province has 57 monuments and historic sites listed, 17 of which are classified as national cultural heritage, said Tuesday, the provincial director of Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sport of Uíge, Manuel Domingos João.

Among the monuments and historical sites that most attract visitors, the official pointed out the Kisabi caves, the site of the battle of Ambuila and the fortress of Bembe.

In the lecture on the importance and promotion of the symbolism of monuments and historic sites, framed in the celebration of the International Day of Monuments and Sites, celebrated this Tuesday (18), the official lamented the difficulties that still persist for the maintenance of this heritage.

The lecture, held at the Uíge Museum, brought together several culture makers, having addressed “The importance of the symbolism of the 18th of April in the promotion of monuments”.

The International Day for Monuments and Sites was established on April 18, 1982 by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) and approved by UNESCO the following year. Since then, this commemorative date has offered the opportunity to raise public awareness of the diversity of heritage and the efforts needed to protect and conserve it, also allowing attention to be drawn to its vulnerability.
