Governments, religious and traditional entities in the province of Uíge, highlighted, this Monday, the figure of the former President of the Republic, José Eduardo dos Santos for his humanist character, for his ability to forgive and for his contribution to the achievement of peace.
The governor of Uíge, José Carvalho da Rocha, who opened the book of condolences in honor of former President José Eduardo dos Santos, wrote that Angola and the world lost a great son who knew how to fight for the integrity of the territory, winning peace , national unity and development.
“In this moment of pain and anguish, on behalf of the provincial government of Uíge and the population, we want to express our heartfelt condolences to the family and Angolans”, reads the condolence book.
In a few words, the governor recalled that José Eduardo dos Santos left a great legacy of peace, unity and national reconciliation, stressing that this peace must be increasingly preserved to guarantee development and territorial integrity. “We must continue to work to maintain peace, unity and national integrity as the best way to honor those who have already left and who have given so much to the well-being of Angolans”, he said. The Reverend of the Anglican Church, Augusto Domingos, recalled, with nostalgia, that President José Eduardo dos Santos knew how to lead the country’s destiny in search of peace, unity, national reconciliation and led Angolans to forgiveness and understanding.
“The country and the Church are very sorry, as they have lost a son who gave so much to his well-being and who still had a lot to give, so we ask the population and the family to observe this moment with a spirit of understanding, unity , peace and brotherhood,” he said.
Soba Miguel Vinco recalls that in the most difficult moments of the country, José Eduardo dos Santos knew how to mobilize the traditional authorities so that they did not lose hope of better days, but confident in the achievement of peace and national reconciliation.
The director of the provincial office of the Former Combatants and Veterans of the Fatherland, Garcia Fanana, recalled the military and political trajectory of “a great statesman” and defended the need to include in academic literature the life and work of President José Eduardo dos Santos, in order to that the new generations know the historical path of the country and its leaders.
