Africa-Press – Angola. The Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres, paid, on Tuesday, paid tribute to the former President of the Republic, José Eduardo dos Santos, who died in Barcelona, in the Kingdom of Spain, due to illness.
António Guterres wrote in the Book of Condolences opened at the premises of the Permanent Mission of Angola to the UN, which honors the late former President for his firm commitment to the independence and sovereignty of Angola, as well as the role of Angola, under his leadership , in the processes that led to the independence of Namibia and the democratization of South Africa.
“His strategic vision and adherence to multipartyism were fundamental for stability in the Democratic Republic of Congo and in the Central Region, as well as in the formation of the Lusophone Community”, he stressed.
The UN Secretary General recalls the multiple meetings he had in different roles, his decisive action being both as leader of the MPLA and as President of Angola.
