Africa-Press – Angola. The regional director of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) for Eastern and Southern Africa, Etleva Kadilli, highlighted Wednesday, in Lubango, HuIla province, that cooperation with the Angolan government is “fruitful” and has an impact on the well-being of local children.

Speaking to the press, after a meeting with the governor of Huila, Nuno Mahapi, as part of the celebrations of 50 years of UNICEF’s presence in Angola, she pointed out that in the relationship with the government the priority is in the sectors of health, education and child protection, where there are gains in vaccination, improved nutritional status and access to quality education.

She defended the importance of civil registration, the integration of services and the fight against violence against children, as it is essential that all minors are healthy, learn well and grow up in safe environments.

Etleva Kadilli said UNICEF is particularly concerned about the nutritional situation of children under five years of age, proposing the intensification of actions against malnutrition and the expansion of health and protection services.

She also defended the need to work more on female empowerment and equal opportunities, as these are the basis for the country’s sustainable development.
