Africa-Press – Angola. The trade union centrals in the province of Benguela asked, this Monday, that the General Labor Inspectorate (IGT) be more sharp in the fight against impunity of employers who continue to violate the norms of hiring and job maintenance.
These are the National Union of Angolan Workers – Trade Union Confederation (UNTA-CS), the General Central of Independent and Free Trade Unions of Angola (CGSILA) and Força Sindical Angolana – Trade Union Central (FSA-CS), whose exhortation appears in the joint declaration alluding to International Workers’ Day, read by the secretary for Information of the Union of Unions of Benguela, Cândido Victorino.
That official highlighted numerous violations by employers of the norms for hiring and maintaining employment in conditions of safety, protection and health for the worker in matters related to the signing and termination of employment contracts.
In addition, he also denounced massive illegal dismissals, which is why the intervention of the General Labor Inspectorate (IGT) was necessary to put an end to impunity for employers, especially in the private sector.
To this end, the trade union centrals recommend the need to improve the functioning of the General Labor Inspectorate, making it more sharp and focused on the fight against constant violations of workers’ rights.
At the moment, said the source, violations of workers’ rights are constant and are getting worse in companies.
However, he complains that, sometimes, the courts lack speed in deciding the cases submitted to them, such as cases of dismissals, forced transfers, including union leaders without legal grounds.
Faced with this scenario, the centrals demand an end to acts of intimidation against workers and trade unionists, in the most sacred respect for the legal guarantees for the protection of the exercise of the right and freedom of association.
He also appealed for equal treatment of national and expatriate workers with regard to remuneration and other working conditions.
Cândido Victorino also highlighted the need to pursue with more seriousness the mechanisms of discounts made to the social security system by workers.
In the tax domain, the trade union centrals demand from the Executive that, within the framework of social consultation, the reduction of the Labor Income Tax (IRT) be discussed, as it constitutes an element of discord among the workers.
Regarding the remuneration table, the unions ask the Executive to immediately revise the national minimum wage, because the current one, set at 32,181, 15 kwanzas, does not correspond to the minimum needs of workers.
