Africa-Press – Angola. The Executive Secretariat of the Standing Committee of the UNITA Political Commission highlighted, this Friday, the “unique” meaning of the Bicesse Agreements, which celebrate 33 years since their signature.
In a statement from this political formation, it adds that the Bicesse Accords, signed on May 31, 1991, represented the beginning of the shift from the single-party system to the multi-party system as a fundamental premise for the construction of the Democratic State of Law and market economy.
Among the main fruits of the Bicesse Agreements, the creation, based on the personnel of the ex-FALA and ex-FAPLA, of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) and the National Police of Angola (PNA), as institutions with a republican vocation, stands out.
As part of the struggle to stabilize the country, he highlights that, with the achievement of peace, on April 4, 2002, Angola created the unavoidable conditions necessary for its development in the political, economic, social and cultural domains.
On this occasion, the Executive Secretariat of the Permanent Committee of the Political Commission of UNITA, on behalf of the members, supporters and friends of the party, paid its simplest tribute to all the heroes of the Fatherland, known and anonymous, who gave their lives for the democracy and peace.
From this perspective, he appealed to all Angolan citizens to defend, consolidate and deepen peace and the Democratic Rule of Law.
Likewise, UNITA urges constant dialogue between different national interest groups to build a common homeland for all Angolans.
The Bicesse Agreement, also known as the Peace Agreement for Angola, was initialed on May 31, 1991.
