Africa-Press – Angola. An exhibition of 28 previously unpublished lithographic works and engravings by Spanish artist Pablo Picasso was inaugurated in the city of Huambo, an initiative of the National Insurance Company of Angola (ENSA), in collaboration with the Kingdom of Spain, through its embassy in Angola.

The inauguration, which took place at the Manuel Rui Monteiro Cultural Center, from last Friday until November 20, was attended by visual artists, politicians, academics, musicians, traditional authorities, journalists, poets, members of civil society and other figures linked to the arts.

The lithographic exhibition and engravings by the Spanish artist Pablo Picasso presents two collections, the first being “The Burial of the Count of Orgaz” and the “Double Flute”, belonging to the Ibero-American University Foundation (FUNIBER), which loaned the paintings by the Spanish painter produced between 1930 and 1968.

In her opening speech, the executive director of the National Insurance Company of Angola (ENSA), Amália Barbosa, explained that the institution is committed to promoting the arts in compliance with its social and cultural responsibilities.

According to the person in charge, this art has been translated into an example, which since 1991, has publicized and awarded the best that has been done in the plastic arts in the country, as a way of giving opportunities to many talents.

The executive director of ENSA, on the other hand, stated that the institution has the ambition to decentralize initiatives and hold art exhibitions outside Luanda.

Amália Barbosa defended the need for more opportunities to hold gender-based events. This year, she continued, ENSA has already been to the provinces of Benguela, Huíla, Luanda, Huambo and Bié.

The person in charge considered the artist Pablo Picasso a historic painter, as he was one of the most renowned and important visual artists of the 20th century, who influenced generations.

Present at the meeting, the Rector of the International University of Cuanza, Carlos Martinez, stressed that the exhibition by artist Pablo Picasso is open to all lovers of fine arts.

In turn, the director of the Provincial Office of Culture, Youth and Sports, Jeremias da Piedade, thanked the promoters for choosing the city of Huambo to host the inauguration of the exhibition of lithographic works and engravings by Pablo Picasso.
