Africa-Press – Angola. The Government of the United States of America appreciates the efforts of Angola, led by João Lourenço, President of the Republic, in maintaining peace and stability in Africa, especially in the Central and Great Lakes region.
These statements were made by Wendy Ruth Sherman, Assistant Secretary of State of the United States of America, during a telephone conversation held yesterday afternoon with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the conversation between the two entities served to address issues related to bilateral relations between the two countries, as well as review multilateral issues.
The Assistant Secretary of State of the United States of America praised the recent visit that Téte António made to DR Congo and Rwan-da as part of the Roadmap of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (CIRGL) for pacification in the East of the DRC, adopted at the Luanda Tripartite Summit.
Ambassador Felisberto Martins, director for America of MIREX, and Márcio Burity, consultant to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, witnessed the conversation, held from the headquarters of Angolan diplomacy.
Angola and the United States of America are experiencing a good moment of exchange of their bilateral relations that cover the various domains of political, diplomatic, economic, social and cultural life.
Strengthening cooperation with Mali
Angola and Mali analyzed yesterday morning, in Luanda, the current status of bilateral cooperation relations. To discuss this cooperation, Diamou Keita, the Malian ambassador to Angola, went to the Angolan diplomacy headquarters building (to Mutamba), Baixa de Luanda, where he met with Téte António, Minister of Foreign Affairs, who also served to present end-of-mission greetings.
During the hearing, Diamou Keita informed the Angolan minister about the current internal situation in Mali, stating that the country’s transition authorities are doing everything they can to return to constitutional normality.
Ambassador Diamou Keita said that Mali has the support of all African countries, including Angola, with whom it has strong historical ties of friendship.
The Republic of Mali is a landlocked African country located in West Africa. It is bordered by seven countries, to the north by Algeria, to the east by Niger, to the west by Mauritania and Senegal and to the south by Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea and Burkina Faso.
Mali has an area of 1,240,000 km2 and its population is estimated at 19 million inhabitants. Some of Mali’s natural resources are uranium and salt. Its growth is also supported by the mining sector, with gold production reaching 54 tonnes, making it the continent’s third largest producer.
The country’s economy is dominated by the agro-pastoral sector, which contributes to the formation of 45 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and employs around 80 percent of the active population.
Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic
Domingos Custódio Vieira Lopes, Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Angolan Communities, received in audience yesterday at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hamdi El Jalil Aali, ambassador of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic accredited to Angola.
The meeting served for the two individuals to address issues related to the strengthening of bilateral relations in the most varied domains, especially in the political-diplomatic chapter.
The occasion was also used for the head of the Sahrawi Democratic Diplomatic Mission in Angola to congratulate the Secretary of State Domingos Vieira Lopes, for his reappointment to the post, expressing his appreciation for the cordiality, civility and democratic environment in which the elections of last August.
The Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic is a territory of North Africa, limited to the north by Morocco, to the east by Algeria, to the east and south by Mauritania and to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, where it borders the Spanish autonomous region of the Canaries.
Angola and the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic have had political and diplomatic relations since 1976. Angola was one of the first countries to recognize the independence of the Arab country, months after its proclamation.
