Africa-Press – Angola. The Chargé d’Affaires and Head of Mission of the United States Embassy in Angola, Shannon Nagy Cazeau, highlighted the strategic importance of the Lobito Corridor for strengthening the partnership between the two countries.
According to the diplomat, who spoke after a meeting with the governor of Benguela Province, Manuel Nunes Júnior, the United States government and businesspeople have invested more than USD 4 billion dollars in projects along the corridor’s infrastructure, aiming for a safer and more prosperous future for both states.
Shannon Nagy Cazeau stated that the Lobito Corridor is a project of great importance for her country, within the framework of the strategic partnership with Angola and the region.
In turn, the governor of Benguela, Manuel Nunes Júnior, stated that the visit of the American diplomat represents a significant step towards strengthening relations between Angola and the United States of America, mainly with regard to the development of the Lobito Corrido.
The governor stated that the project has generated considerable interest from the United States, which considers it a key element for the sustainability and success of the initiative.
Manuel Nunes Júnior reported that solid assurances were given by the American diplomat regarding the existence of a consistent, strong, and rigorous partnership, with a view to ensuring that the Lobito Corridor becomes a successful project.
When asked about the potential release of the USD500 million allocated to the project, the governor clarified that the matter is being addressed and that, according to the information he has, it is progressing well.
The Lobito Corridor is a rail and logistics infrastructure that connects the Port of Lobito, in the province of Benguela, to the interior of the country, crossing the Benguela Railway Line (CFB) to the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo, with a connection to Zambia. The corridor turns easier the flow of critical minerals, agricultural products and other goods from the interior of Africa to international markets.
The project has garnered strong international interest, particularly from the United States of America and European partners, who see the Lobito Corridor as a safe and sustainable alternative for the transport of strategic minerals essential for the global energy transition.
