Africa-Press – Angola. The use of the Portuguese language in the African Union was the subject of conversation, yesterday, between the Angolan ambassador to Ethiopia, Djibouti and the permanent representative to the African Union (AU) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (CEA), Francisco José da Cruz, and the director of Information and Communication of the continental organization, Leslie Richer.

Both diplomats underlined the need to increase the production and dissemination of documents in Portuguese, one of the Union’s six official and working languages, and considered it imperative to revitalize the Portuguese version of the continental organization’s website, recognized as an essential communication vehicle.

Just yesterday, Ambassador Francisco José da Cruz received at the premises of the Angolan Diplomatic Mission, in Addis Ababa, the deputy governor of Huíla province for the Political, Social and Economic Sector, Maria João Francisco Chipalavela.

The official and her team participated from the 24th to the 26th of this month, in the Ethiopian capital, in meetings on Data and Civil Registration and Vital Statistics, organized by the African Union with the support of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and the Bank for African Development (AfDB).
