The distinction, held on the sidelines of the FIN Banking Forum on Emerging Markets, is a recognition of Vera Daves’ influence, impact and leadership in the financial sector.

The finance minister was also a speaker and guest of honor at the FIN Banking Forum, held on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the Bratten Woods institutions.

The act of distinction was attended by the Angolan ambassador to the United States of America, Joaquim do Espírito Santo, who, on behalf of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, and the Angolan people, thanked the tribute paid to Minister Vera Daves, who considered to be an exceptional picture of Angola.

The diplomat also underlined that the country has taken important steps under the leadership of President João Lourenço to transform and diversify the economy and increase global investment.

“We have drastically improved Angola’s debt-to-GDP ratio. We have increased international reserves for the first time in six years. Major international rating agencies have raised our credit ratings. Our external debt has been massively reduced, which makes the interest of the international community in investing in Angola”, highlighted Joaquim do Espírito Santo.

Representatives of the World Bank, International Monetary Fund, Inter-American Development Bank, AfDB, finance ministers, central bank governors and representatives of financial institutions participated in the forum.

The meeting also served for the discussion of several subjects, highlighting topics such as global inflation, external imbalances, balance of payments and trade reconciliations, financial inclusion, capitalization and credit for off-shore projects.
