Africa-Press – Angola. The Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, defended this Thursday the improvement of teaching and learning conditions for the inclusion, in the formal national system, of students with disabilities and limitations in cognitive development.
Esperança da Costa, who was speaking at the end of a visit to school number 1531, known as Escola Especial, in the Urbano do Rangel District, in Luanda, said that the institution lacks in-depth interventions, some of them related to infrastructure.
The leader also said that
the Special School lacks adequate equipment for the cognitive development of students with disabilities.
“It is a school that we intend to be inclusive and that serves the so-called normal students. But the school also needs investment in terms of human resources”, he underlined.
The Vice-President of the Republic instructed the Ministry of Education and the School’s management to identify the establishment’s needs, in order to increase its response capacity.
Esperança da Costa considered it important to provide the School with greater capacity, in order to respond to the needs and demands of the municipality of Luanda regarding the inclusion of children with disabilities and limitations in cognitive development.
As part of the field day, held this Thursday, the Vice-President of the Republic also visited School 9001, in the Urban District of Benfica, defending the need to provide it with greater training and service capacity in terms of teaching technical-professional.
“We have (…) a great need and demand in terms of professional education, so we have to provide young people with skills and competences so that they can be quickly inserted into the job market”, he said.
He informed that the Angolan Government
will pay greater attention to the resizing of schools in the Urban District of Benfica, including
those of general and technical-professional education.
The strategy aims to respond more quickly to demand and train young people, and beyond, for the job market.
As for School 42, another that was visited by the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa said that it represents President João Lourenço’s commitment to development and innovation in the country.
He said that the educational institution opens up
opportunities for training young people in the information technology segment, especially in the age of artificial intelligence.
It is, he continued, an inclusive school and we can replicate it in other parts of the country so that, in fact, it absorbs young people from other provinces and bets more on promoting the industry with staff trained in these areas.
He said that it has been increasingly difficult to find talent among Angolan students in the areas of engineering, mathematics and physics.
With regard to the Higher Polytechnic Institute of Technologies and Sciences (ISPTEC), Esperança da Costa referred to the need to boost the areas of exact sciences, supported by quality teaching.
“We intend, with this, to show that the Executive is oriented (…) towards investment in human capital and this is, without a doubt, one of the fundamental objectives of our governance”, he expressed.
