Africa-Press – Angola. The Vice-President of the Republic, Bornito de Sousa, encouraged, Friday (22), in Luanda, the direction of the Angolan Swimming Federation (FAN) to develop the modality at the level of disabled people, within the framework of his project “swimming for all”.

Speaking to the press, during a visit to the FAN headquarters, he considered it to be a priority issue as it would give the federative project a comprehensive and inclusive meaning.

The program, whose objective is to reduce deaths from drowning in the seas, rivers, lakes, lagoons and swimming pools, will be launched in May in the provinces of Luanda, Huambo and Benguela.

After receiving detailed explanations about the federative actions, Bornito de Sousa also suggested the launch of swimming programs for babies, in order to avoid drowning deaths in the early stages of life.

The university professor also advised taking the “swimming for all” program around the CAFU project, in Bié province, which aims to minimize deaths from asphyxiation in those ditches made to combat drought in the region.

Regarding the recent participation of the National Team in the African Championship of Zone IV, played in Zambia, the official was delighted with the results.

In the continental competition, Angola won nine medals, of which two gold, three silver and four bronze, ranking 12th in the overall table.

However, he suggested better exploration of the legal means of financing, to allow greater compliance with development plans, citing the Patronage Law as an example. It characterized swimming as one of the most complete modalities.
