Africa-Press – Angola. The Vice President of the Republic of Angola, Esperança da Costa, on Tuesday in Shanghai, People’s Republic of China, visited the headquarters of the New Development Bank (NDB).
The financial body was created in 2014 by the governments of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) to finance infrastructure and sustainable development projects.
At the end of the visit that is part of her three working days in China, she wrote in the book of honor that the trip reflects the strong convergence between Angola’s development and reform agenda and the principles of sustainability and progress advocated by the bank, considered a strategic partner for the advancement of countries in the Global South.
Esperança da Costa wished success to the institution’s chairperson, the former Brazilian President, Dilma Rousseff, who is leading the NDB, which began operations in 2016.
The institution’s mission is to finance infrastructure and sustainable development projects in member countries, thus constituting an alternative to the traditional international financial system.
Still for Tuesday, regarding the enhancement of the bilateral cooperation, the Angolan leader visited the Chinese multinational technology company, Huawei branch in Shanghai. She took the opportunity to learn about the projects developed by the company in Angola.
The Angolan delegation was also briefed on how the institution operates, as well as its future projects. However, in Shanghai the company has a research and development center, the result of a USD 1.4 billion investment.
The infrastructure is located in an area of over two million square meters and employs approximately 35.000 people in the research and development field. The center is considered the largest in the world, even bigger than Apple Park owned by the United States (US) company Apple Inc located in Cupertino, California or Meta Park owned by the American multinational technology company Meta Platforms, Inc whose headquarters is in Menlo Park, also in California.
The Huawi campus comprises more than 100 food courts, a central lake and also an internal train that runs throughout the area.
The company has already received visits from executives from various industries through programs such as Learning Expeditions, which allows them to get a close look at how the center operates.
