Africa-Press – Angola. The Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, received in audience, on Tuesday, the president of the United Methodist Church’s West Angola Annual Conference, Bishop Gaspar Domingos, who reaffirmed his interest in continuing to work with the Executive in the development of the education in the country, as well as strengthening the moral and civic values ​​of Angolan families.

On the occasion, Gaspar Domingos informed that he was nominated by the College of African Bishops to assume the post of Chancellor of the University of Africa in Zimbabwe, a higher education institution linked to the United Methodist Church, which in this capacity makes itself available to the Angolan authorities for programs of training of Angolans in the mentioned educational institution.

In Angola for 137 years, since the arrival in 1885 of Bishop William Taylor and his caravan of missionaries, the Methodist Church, in addition to expanding the gospel, has given priority to the social needs of the most vulnerable people and to education, contributing to the dignification of the Angolan citizen and the development of the different education subsystems in the country.

The United Methodist Church celebrates next October 30th, the “Jubilee Sunday 50 years of the Angolan Methodist Episcopate”.

Due to this commemoration, Gaspar Domingos extended the invitation to the Vice-President of the Republic to participate in the aforementioned event.
