Violation of electoral rules entails civil and criminal liability

Africa-Press – Angola. Lawyer Fernando Siendilove warned yesterday, in Huambo, that the acts to be carried out by political parties at this stage of the electoral campaign must be in line with the rules, under penalty of violating the Constitution and the law, incurring civil or criminal liability.

“The appeal goes to political parties, coalitions of parties and civil society to be guided by a dignified conduct, obeying all legal parameters, for the realization of free and fair General Elections, on 24 August, in a climate of peace like all Angolans want, for us to continue to consolidate democracy in Angola”, he said.

Fernando Siendilove recalled that democracy presupposes freedom of expression, a right enshrined in the Constitution that is not synonymous with debauchery and must be exercised within the limits of the law.

He cited the Organic Law on General Elections, which establishes the civil liability of political parties and coalitions of political parties, for incitement to hatred and violence in the course of their electoral activities, when these acts directly result in damage to third parties, such as imposed limits, take into account during the election period.
