Africa-Press – Angola. The actor, director and screenwriter Tomás Ferreira “Walter” defended, this Wednesday, in Huambo, a greater investment in national cinema, through the creation of comprehensive projects capable of promoting long-term cinematographic development.
Walter Ferreira, who was speaking about the development of cinema in the country, said that the growth of cinema requires the creation of sustainable projects by the State, which translates into the promotion of this activity in the country.
The program presenter also referred that, in Angola, the struggle and difficulties of the new generation are the same compared to those of the 80s and 90s of the last century, without any incentive from the State.
He referred that the cinema benefits not only the citizens, but also the Executive, for helping to solve problems related to employment, education, dissemination of history, learning national languages, love of the country, in addition to allowing a greater appreciation of cultural references of the country and in the passage of witnesses.
“National soap operas and films, with sustainable investments, bring a change of mentality, more patriotism and nationalism to young people in a given country, including the elevation of local culture to international levels”, he emphasized.
Hence, added the television professional 37 years ago, there is an urgent need for the State to “kick it off”, as in Brazil and Portugal, as cinema is expensive, whether in Angola or anywhere else in the world, with the creation of cultural industries.
According to the director, in the cinematographic world, the role of the State is aimed at creating different projects, such as the construction of a cinema industry, professional training centers for actors, interaction with the makers of the sector and other investments, in addition to encourage the initiatives of private agents.
With two dozen short films and series, with emphasis on “Vanda Lemos”, “Um Homem Nunca Chora”, “Caminhos da Vida”, “O Ninho”, “Feliz Ano”, “Caminhos Cruzados” and “Angola Chama -te”, Tomás Ferreira “Walter” served TPA for 37 years, having performed the functions of Director of Programs on Channel 1, in addition to producing programs such as Janela Aberta and Stop Sida.
In addition to being involved in several cinematographic projects in the country, he is currently one of the protagonists of the film “Where is God?”, produced in Portugal and Angola, which will be released on Netflix on September 1st of this year.
