We Played a Good Game, Says National Football Team Coach

Africa-Press – Angola. Coach of the National Football Team, Pedro Gonçalves, on Tuesday in Luanda stated that the team played a good match, which resulted in a 3-1 victory over Mauritius.

The game is part of the eighth round of Group D, qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, which will take place in the United States of America (USA), Canada and Mexico.

Speaking to the press at the 11 de Novembro stadium, he said that the three goals were achieved due to collective work.

As in the analysis of the previous match against Libya (0-1), the Portuguese coach lamented the lack of effectiveness in several benefits, but guaranteed continuous work to improve various aspects of the game.

Pedro Gonçalves expressed his desire to win the two remaining games, scheduled for October 8 against Eswatini and October 11 against Cameroon, for the closing of the group stage.

Regarding the two matches, he said they will be demanding, especially as they will be played away from home, adding that it is up to the players to show the same attitude they had against Mauritius.

With this victory, Angola is in 4th place with 10 points, while Mauritius is in fifth with five points.

Cabo Verde leads with 19 points, followed by Cameroon with 15 points, while Libya is in third place with 14 points, while Eswatini is in sixth place with two points.

Mauritius coach, former French professional footballer Guillaume Luc Moullec, briefly acknowledged Angola’s victory.
