Africa-Press – Angola. The Benguela women’s wheelchair basketball team is the new national champion of the sport. The Benguela women won the title, thanks to a comfortable victory (31-7) over the Bié team, in the game held on Saturday morning at the Sporting do Bié Pavilion, in the grand final match.”We always believed that it was possible to win this championship. We came with a well-prepared and confident team. Thank God we achieved the first double, winning the Super Cup and the National Championship”, said Misto de Benguela coach João Baptista.

With this feat, the Benguela team dethroned the defending champions Misto do Huambo. In the qualifying round for third and fourth place, Misto do Huambo beat (21-12) the INEFOP team from Viana, which took fourth place.

In the final classification, the Cuanza-Sul Mixed Team came in fifth place, the Viana Physical Rehabilitation Center came in sixth place, the Huíla Mixed Team came in seventh and the Princess Diana Medical Center came in eighth and last place.

At the closing ceremony, presided over by the director of the Provincial Office of Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports, Afonso Belo Sanguvila, the first two classified, Misto de Benguela and Bié, received the aforementioned trophies.

The top scorer was athlete Valentina Tchiteculo, from Misto de Benguela, with 90 points. She was also the MVP athlete. Misto do Cuanza-Sul was the fay-play team, Afonso de Jesus was the best referee, João Baptista was the best coach.

Amílcar Chipindo, president of the Bié Paralympic Sports Association, paid tribute to Mr. José Chimuco, the driving force behind Paralympic sports in Bié.
