Africa-Press – Angola. With the continuity of coach Silvestre Pelé at the head of the team assured, Wiliete Sport Club de Benguela maintains maintenance as its main objective for the next football season.

Coming from the hosts of Académica do Lobito, Silvestre Pelé is the coach who took the Benguela emblem to fourth place in the “Girabola 2022/23” National Football Championship, hence the renewal of his contract.

Speaking at a press conference on Girabola 2022/23 and prospects for next season, the president of Wiliete Sport Clube de Benguela, Wilson Faria, considered the team’s performance positive, for having fulfilled the objective of remaining in the first division.

It is in this context that he guarantees the continuity of Silvestre Pelé, emphasizing that it would be crazy to change the technical team now. “Since we were kids we learned that the winning team doesn’t change. The mister will continue,” he added.

Satisfied with the performance of the team in the season just ended, despite the elimination in the Angolan Cup, he said that the objective in the 2023-24 season is to remain in the “Girabola” National Championship.

It’s just that, for the president of Wiliete, with the team’s current budget, estimated at 350 million kwanzas, it would be unwise to apply for first place in Girabola 2023/24, which is why reality advises to maintain the goal.

“So, while we don’t have (ideal) financial conditions, we will continue to define maintenance as the main objective”, he insisted, conveying the idea that, if the opponents let us play, the Benguela team could go as far as possible, were it not for the football “a box of surprises”.

25 percent squad renewal

Regarding the renewal of the squad, the president promised to hire new reinforcements in the order of 25 percent, adding that 75 percent of players from last season still have a contract with the club and therefore remain.

“We are working to introduce some changes to the squad from the previous season. Soon, we don’t have to move much, ”he explained.

Wilson Faria also promised the Wiliete Sport Clube de Benguela supporters that they can continue to believe that the association will spare no efforts to better represent the province and dignify the emblem in the coming football season.

atypical championship

At another point in the interview, the president of Wiliete made it clear that it was preferable to be realistic at the time of expectations, stressing that the national football championship of the first division is even atypical due to the budget discrepancy between the clubs.

“Because there are those who have everything and there are those who have nothing”, he shot, claiming that the 350 million kwanzas spent by Wiliete throughout the championship may be the monthly budget for one of the first classifieds of the season just ended.

“With this current budget, to say we’re going to run for first place would be crazy.”

As for the source of this sum, he highlighted the contribution of its partners, such as Kixi Crédito, with 35 percent, Wiliete Crédito, Instituto Superior Politécnico Ombaka, Instituto Politécnico Privado Wiliete and the partners, each with ten percent, while BIC Insurance disbursed eight percent.

Likewise, ticketing and the sale of sports material at the club contributed seven percent each, which, according to the source, happened for the first time.

For him, these were the main factors behind the success of Girabola’s revelation team, allowing the work to be fully accomplished.
