Africa-Press – Angola. The 1º de Agosto-A team was crowned champion of the 42nd edition of the National Junior Women’s Handball Championship that ended this Saturday at the Palanca Negra pavilion in Malanje, after a 28-18 victory over the confreres (1º de Agosto-B).
In a game of little history, the main team of Cidade Desportiva entered determined to conquer the event and skidded before the tenacity of the younger ones. Until the break, balance dominated the game: The difference of one (1) goal (11-10) justified the formation at the Academy.
In the resumption, after the “orders” of the coaches, the A-team re-entered with a bang and started to show the strong capacity of attack and defense. The splendor of the adversaries shown in the first half disappeared and a group was seen more attached to the fulfillment of time.
With small slips in attack and defense, 1º de Agosto-A closed the timed time at 28-18 and added the fourth consecutive victory.
In reaction to the consecration, the head coach of 1º de Agosto-A, José Hunter, said that “the victory is deserved” and congratulated the girls.
João Diogo, coach of 1º de Agosto-B, said that the classification obtained is the result of “hard work” and the “abysmal” difference at the end does not mirror what happened in the first half.
In the qualifiers for third place, Electro do Lobito beat Petro de Luanda by 23-18.
In the final ranking, 1º de Agosto-A led followed by 1º de Agosto-B.
Captain Dolores do Rosário, from 1º de Agosto-A, was elected MVP (Most Valuable Player). Verónica Sheila, from Maculusso, was the Top Scorer with 63 goals. MandaSport is the Fair Play team.
The competition brought together 13 teams, in a universe of 312 athletes, who played 37 games in ten days.
