Young people must adopt exemplary behavior before, during and after the elections, so that they take place in a free and transparent way, defended, Thursday, in Huambo, Paulino Santos, head of the Office of the President of the Provincial Electoral Commission, during the methodological seminar on the participation of civil society youth organizations in the August 24 general elections.
Paulino Santos, who addressed the theme “Citizenship and patriotism in electoral times”, acknowledged that civil society has done an exemplary job with regard to citizenship.
The coordinator of the project “A Caminho das Eleições”, Valter Ferreira, stressed that the seminar aims to expand participatory democracy, raise awareness of the rights and duties that are part of the electoral process and provide an environment for discussion.
“Our mission is to publicize the project and discuss the before, during and after the elections. The elections are the celebration of democracy. The youth must vote consciously and responsibly, so that we can consolidate the Rule of Law and Democracy” , said.
Valter Ferreira appealed for social peace and the strengthening of participatory democracy, stressing that it is necessary to have a participative youth, who know their rights, the booklet of the National Electoral Commission and interact with the youth organizations of political parties.
“The party belongs to the political parties, but sovereignty resides in the people, as it is the preponderant force. The electoral campaign starts tomorrow, we ask that the youth manifest, in a positive way, their ideas in public spaces and that civility prevails”, asked the coordinator of the project “Towards the elections”.
Sebastião Manuel, a member of the Provincial Electoral Commission of Huambo, participated in the seminar and addressed the theme “The Angolan electoral history versus the current challenges of youth”, and took the opportunity to draw attention to young people about the responsibility they have in this process.
“Youth is the largest electoral population fringe in Angola. In this process, they are called to use reason and not emotion. What is decided on that day will dictate their future”, he stressed.
