The ambassador to Cuba, Maria Cândida Teixeira, highlighted the commitment of young people, throughout history, to building the country, during a meeting with the Angolan community, in the Cuban province of Holguín, as part of the commemorative days of the “Angolan Youth Day ”, marked on 14 April.
Maria Cândida Teixeira explained that young people have always been linked to the most important phases of the Angolan nation, since the beginning of the Struggle for National Independence. The diplomat spoke during a lecture on the participation of young people in the country’s life, namely “The role of Angolan youth in the construction of full citizenship”, having made an enlightening approach on the quality of the young people’s contribution.
The ambassador valued the efforts of the Angolan Executive in training staff abroad, and advised young people to commit to their studies in order to achieve good results. During the visit to Holguín, Maria Cândida Teixeira participated in several activities, with emphasis on the meeting with Angolan university students in that province. He held a meeting with the dean of the University of Medical Sciences of Holguín, Galina Chacón, and with other members of the board, stressing the importance that students should attach to knowledge about the past and present of relations between Angola. and Cuba.
The Angolan ambassador also visited Comandante Fidel Castro’s Casa Natal Museum, where she took the opportunity to express that “Fidel was a humanist, magnanimous, internationalist of world stature”. Maria Cândida Teixeira also paid tribute to the internationalist fighter Che Guevara, with the laying of a wreath on his monument.
