Zaire: Citizens foresee advantages in the New Political-Administrative Division

Africa-Press – Angola. Some citizens of Mbanza Kongo, province of Zaire, considered, this Monday, pertinent the proposal of Law of the New Political-Administrative Division of the country in the approximation of the public services to the citizens.

In declarations, the interlocutors pointed out the current difficulties that the population residing in remote areas faces in terms of access to public and administrative services.

The young Manuel Tussamba referred to residents of the communes of Serra de Canda, in the municipality of Cuimba, and Kibala Norte (Nzeto), who travel long distances to the municipal headquarters in search of banking services or civil registration.

According to him, the aforementioned locations lack infrastructure to support the provision of these and other public services to the local inhabitants, for whom this situation is aggravated by the poor condition of the access roads.

The civil servant, Isabel Nguinamau, said that, currently, there is a lack of everything in the 25 communes in the region, except for one or two locations, from drinking water, electricity, civil registration and criminal identification services, banking, leisure, among others. .

For him, the intention of raising some communes in the country to the category of municipality will accelerate the development of these localities and provide better quality of life for the citizens residing there.

In turn, the university professor, Zacarias André, believes that the New Political-Administrative Division will be able to halt the rural exodus, stressing that, nowadays, the interior areas of Zaire province have become depopulated.

“It is almost difficult nowadays to find many young people living in the communes. A good part migrated to the cities in search of better living conditions, new job opportunities and others”, she explained.

The proposed Law for the New Political-Administrative Division of the country aims to promote the harmonious development of the national territory.

It should go to Parliament, after the approval of its final version by the Council of Ministers.

The project proposes to change the State’s model of municipality, approved by the Council of Ministers, with the division of the provinces of Cuando Cubango and Moxico into two, thus making twenty (20) provinces and an increase from 164 to 581 municipalities.

Currently, the province of Zaire is subdivided into six municipalities (Mbanza Kongo, Soyo, Cuimba, Nzeto, Tomboco and Nóqui) and 25 communes. The region has an estimated population of over 500,000 inhabitants.
