Russia regrets FIFA decision

Africa-Press – Botswana. In a note published on its official website, the Football Union of Russia says that the exclusion of the country’s national teams and clubs from all international football competitions goes “against all norms and principles”, leaving the recourse to the courts on the table. .

The Russian Football Union (RFU) has opposed the decision, which it says is “discriminatory” taken by FIFA and UEFA, to suspend clubs and national teams from all competitions, and argues that it goes “against all norms and principles” .

Shortly after the two entities announced the deliberation, due to Russia’s military offensive in Ukraine, the RFU issued a statement to criticize a decision that “harms a large number of athletes, coaches, club and national staff”.

“The Football Union of Russia categorically disagrees with the decision by FIFA and UEFA to suspend all Russian teams from participating in international matches for an indefinite period. We believe that this decision is contrary to the norms and principles of international competition, as well as the spirit of sport”, begins by expressing the organization, through a note published on the official website.

According to the RFU, the decision made official by the governing bodies of world and European football this Monday “has a clearly discriminatory character and harms a large number of athletes, coaches, club and national staff and, more importantly, millions of Russian and foreign supporters, whose interests the international sports organizations must protect in the first place”.

Finally, he argues that “such actions are dividing the world sports community, which has always adhered to the principles of equality, mutual respect and independence from politics”, and makes it clear that he feels he has “the right to contest the decision in accordance with the laws international sports”.

The exclusion of Russian representations from European and world competitions was decided at the highest level, by the “Bureau of the FIFA Council and the UEFA Executive Committee, the two highest decision-making bodies of the two institutions on such urgent matters”.

This decision comes a day after FIFA canceled football matches in Russia, allowing the country’s teams to play on a neutral field, without spectators and without anthem, and under the designation of their national federation and not the country. Russia should face Poland in Moscow in one of the semi-finals, with the winner of that match receiving in the final of the ‘play-off’ for the 2022 World Cup the winning team of the match between Sweden and the Czech Republic, in a clash that could be again on Russian territory. The game between Russia and Poland is scheduled for 24 March and the final of that “play-off”, on 29 of the same month.
