MOAGI URGES IMPROVEMENT OF PROJECT DELIVERY

Africa-Press – Botswana. Ramotswa Member of Parliament, Mr Lefoko Moagi has called for improvement on delivery of projects in particular those aimed at improving supply of potable water in his constituency.

In his contribution to the State-of-the-Nation Address debate on Wednesday, Mr Moagi said while his constituency was getting water from Masama wellfield and including three out of the nine Siga boreholes, about 40 per cent of water supply was going to waste as a result of leakages.

He said locations such as Sepitswana, Makoloboto and Tsokung located in high areas were almost not receiving water at all.

Mr Moagi said there were reports of a faulty valve that was taking long to be attended to.

Mr Moagi also added that construction of internal roads was also delayed by court cases with some companies querying the tendering processes.

He said this in turn had affected delivery of the much needed developments to people.

He said funds permitting, the health facility at Taung should be resourced with medical personnel while services should be expanded so as to reduce congestion at major clinics and hospitals.

Mr Moagi noted that schools such as Moeding College had received P16 million for maintenance while Mogobane JSS will receive P14 million.

He said maintenance of ablution blocks at Mogobane JSS should be a priority.

Expressing concern about indiscipline among learners, he urged that discipline must be instilled in pupils.

He said border villages such as Tsokwane, Rasetomma, Moruswane and Tsibigo were facing challenges of cross border stock theft, thereby appealing for increase of police officers to arrest the situation.

Mr Moagi urged the youth in his constituency to preserve culture and use it to earn a living.

He said one of the groups from Ramotswa named Ditlhaka used to travel the world.

In her contributions, Specially Elected Member of Parliament Ms Philda Kereng said the revised tourism policy would not only focus on wildlife as source to tourism but consider other cultural aspects such as cuisine, religion, song and dance.

Ms Kereng said the 10-year Master plan (2023-2033) would guide on what must be done to identify other tourism priorities unique to each area.

Ms Kereng also noted that domestic tourism was doing well citing activities such as Nama Festival, Xere Cultural Festival and Khawa Dune Challenge.

She said of recent, her ministry was engaged in selling and encouraging domestic travel through campaigns that involved 321 companies in the tourism sector with packages expected to be released soon.

She said the Kasane-Kazungula re-development was one of the projects aimed at growing the tourism sector.

Ms Kereng encouraged Batswana to engage in agro-tourism to diversify the sector and urged those who had embraced it not to be discouraged by challenges.

She hailed Botswana for its sustainable management of natural resources saying it goes a long way in preserving the tourism industry.

She talked about the hunting quota which she said were part of the efforts to reduce human-wildlife conflicts and increase community benefits from sustainable wildlife utilisation.
