A must Win for Zebras against Zambia

Africa-Press – Botswana. The senior national football team, the Zebras, will have to unleash their potential and win at least by two clear goals against Chipolopolo of Zambia in order to proceed to the next round of the 2025 HollywoodBest COSAFA Senior Championships.

The Zebras, which meets Zambia in Bloemfontein South Africa today has collected a point after playing to a goalless draw against Comoros on June 9. Comoros is at the summit of group D, having accumulated four points after defeating Zambia 1-0 in their first game. Botswana is on second position while Zambia has not yet registered a point. As such, a lot will be at stake in today’s encounter.

Zebras head coach, Morena Ramoreboli said in an interview that Comoros was a strong side, but also noted that the local lads missed several scoring chances they could have taken advantage of. However, he mentioned that many of the Zebras players were making their debut, and both their performance and the result gave him confidence ahead of the match against Zambia.

Ramoreboli said he was happy with the new players’ adaptability given that there was pressure playing for the national team for the first time. The coach said the Zebras should create chances and covert goals for them to win the game. He said it was important for the technical team to prepare the players psychologically and tactically for them to be ready to face Chipolopolo.

“Obviously the stakes are high, and if we want a positive result we must focus entirely on ourselves. It is not about the points that Zambia has, it is about what we can do on the pitch. Our full concentration should be on our performance, our strategy and executing of our game plan to the fullest,” the coach said.

Although Ramoreboli said a win was vital, he emphasised that he was building a team that would participate in the AFCON, therefore it was important to give players international experience.
