Africa-Press – Botswana. Moeng College school head, Mr Pasina Thupa, has expressed a concern regarding maintenance of the school.
Briefing the Member of Parliament for Lerala/ Maunatlala, Mr Setlhabelo Modukanele during a recent visit Mr Thupa said the school’s refurbishment project had been ongoing at the school since 2022 and was expected to take 18 months and completed last year December.
Mr Thupa said the company on site requested for a four months extension to complete the remaining works.
He said that the slow pace at which the company was going would affect accommodation for the Form 4 students. Already, he said, work for hostels and teachers’ houses was behind adding that teachers were currently storing their belongings in the asbestos houses and that was an inconvenience.
However, Mr Thupa said he appreciated that something was being done even though some elements such as plumbing were not included in the scope of works and about four blocks of hostels were excluded. On the status of the hostels which burnt recently, Mr Thupa said that they had been asked to submit a report of what really happened and were awaiting response on the way forward.
Mr Thupa said the Agriculture Pathways Project was on-going at school and pupils were learning from it while other schools visited to also learn.
Teachers on the other hand, raised concerns such as poor internet connectivity, overstays and acute shortage of accommodation.
For his part, Mr Modukanele said he would take their concerns to appropriate authorities to see how they could be assisted.
He said internet connectivity was important and would meet the relevant authority to address it.
He said he would ask the Minister of Education and Skills Development, Dr Douglas Letsholathebe, to visit the school, to get firsthand information about their challenges.
