Africa-Press – Botswana. The University of Botswana (UB) has won the Botswana Tertiary Student Sport Association (BOTESSA) amassing 24 medals being nine gold, seven silver and seven bronze medals.
Gaborone University College (GUC) came second with a total of 19 medals made up of six gold, eight silver and three bronze medals. Position three went to New Era College (NEC) with a total of 10 medals being four gold, three silver and three bronze medals during the BOTESSA Athletics Championship held at the Obed Itani Chilume Stadium in Francistown over the weekend.
BOTESSA vice president-technical Thabo Mothibi said the championship, which had brought together 400 athletes, served to identify those who would qualify for other athletics events such as the National championships to be held from May 16-18.
He also said the event was used a qualifier for the FISU Games to be held in Germany from July 16 to 27.
He said Jerry Ookeditse from GUC had qualified for the FISU Games in 400m event after registering a time of 46.14 beating the qualifying time is 46.50.
BOTESSA Athletics Championship organiser, Aubrey Mathe noted that the two-day event went well, saying they used the electronic time system, which is used by the Botswana Athletics Association.
